Mission Statement

The mission of the Chester Fire Department is to provide high-level public safety services by saving lives, protecting property, promoting fire prevention and awareness, through education, effective training, fire code enforcement, professional customer service, and fire support readiness, to the residences and businesses of the City of Chester, while promoting the credence of CFD: Courage, Faith, and Demonstration.


The Chester Fire Department provides fire protection and other emergency response services to the residents, businesses, and industries of the Chester Fire District.  The Chester Fire District has an approximate 34 square mile service area, located in the center of Chester County, and includes the City of Chester municipality.  The department has an ISO rating of 2/10, which is effective on September 1, 2015.  The fire department is a combination department with 27 paid employees and an average of 16 volunteer/part-time firefighter positions.

The department’s staff consists of a full time paid Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, Fire Inspector, and Administrative Assistant.  These positions work a normal 8:30 am until 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday schedule.  The Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, and Fire Inspector also respond to emergency incidents as needed or required.  The department has 24 paid shift personnel.  There are eight personnel on three shifts.  They work a 24 hour on duty, 48 hour off duty schedule.  We staff an average of 16 volunteer/part-time firefighter positions.  All off duty and part-time personnel carry pagers that can alert them 24/7 for needed assistance on any emergency incident scene. 

We have two fire station facilities, and an emergency services training center.  The department has 4 fire engines, 1 engine/aerial truck (75 ft. stick ladder), 1 rescue service/equipment truck, 2 tanker vehicles, and 2 brush truck units.  The fire chief and fire marshal each have a vehicle.  And the department has 2 utility pick-up trucks, and one car for department business use and personnel transport.

Station One:

Located at 156 Columbia Street, Chester, SC 29706

Serves as the headquarters for the Chester Fire District, and houses the administrative offices for the department.  Station One houses two fire engines, one ladder truck, one tanker truck, and one brush truck.  The station also houses one utility pick-up truck and one car for personnel department business use. There are five shift employees that operate out of this station.

Station Ten:

Located at 988 McCandless Road, Chester, SC 29706

The Chester County Emergency Services Training Center is located on the property with Station Ten.  The training center has a classroom, a three story training tower with live fire burn room, outdoor training areas which include roof props, confined space props, and outdoor instruction areas. Also has an air cascade room for the refilling of self-contained breathing apparatus. The station houses two fire engines, one rescue service/equipment truck, one tanker truck, and one brush truck.  The station also has a utility pick-up truck for personnel department business use. There are three shift employees that operate out of this station.
